Identification of piRNAs and microRNAs involved in cell lineages.

We are looking for a dedicated Early Stage Researcher to join the EvoCELL Network to establish protocols for small RNA expression studies in Platynereis dumerelii, to obtain a first view on the diversity and distribution of microRNAs in individual cell types, building on the cellular expression atlas. The 13 months position is part of the EvoCELL Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative training Network (www.evocell-itn.eu).

EvoCELL

The EvoCELL network comprises 11 European partner laboratories joining forces to elucidate the evolution of animal cell types by comparative whole-body single-cell RNA-seq approaches. The network, coordinated by EMBL Heidelberg, brings together 8 academic and 2 non-academic organizations from 6 European countries, including a company and a museum. Partners have complementary expertise in evolutionary developmental biology (EvoDevo), bioinformatics, functional neurobiology, and paleontology. The fellow will also have the opportunity to take part in the network training activities and benefit from established collaborations.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have experience with Platynereis dumerelii, as well as excellent experience in molecular biology techniques. Prior experience with macroevolutionary studies, or analyzing expression and functional data in an evolutionary context is strongly preferred. Experience with single molecule fluorescent in situ hybridization (smFISH) and immunofluorescence for validation will be highly valued. Working language is English, therefore proficiency in this language is required. The fellow will receive a competitive salary, including a mobility allowance and social security.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to apply for this position, candidates should have completed their Master studies (or the degree that allows them to embark in a PhD in their country of origin or in the hosting country), not longer than 4 years from the start of the fellowship. At the start of their fellowship, candidates may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) at EMBL for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the appointment. Candidates can be of any nationality, but are required to undertake transnational mobility. Applications from candidates who already possess a doctoral degree will not be considered.
